Dorothy Mary Fitzpatrick graduated with first class Honours in history at the University of Melbourne in 1934, then tutored in political philosophy and economic history at the University. In 1939-40 she undertook extensive research for a study of the wool trade. After her marriage to Brian Fitzpatrick (1905-1965) and the birth of their daughter and son she returned to teaching, initially as a school teacher (Shelford CEGGS in 1953 and Melbourne CEGGS from 1954 to 1958) and from 1962 to 1978 as a Senior Teaching Fellow (Senior Tutor) in the History Department at Monash University. Dorothy Fitzpatrick died on 7 September 2001.
