Originally from Swampscott, MA, George Lucey graduated from Norwich University in the class of 1938. He was a member of Iota Pi Kappa fraternity and played interfraternity basketball and baseball. He also served on the staffs of the War Whoop and Guidon. Lucey was a mainstay of the Norwich band. Serving in World War II, George Lucey was captured by Field Marshal Irwin Rommel at the Battle of Zidu Bu Zid in North Africa. He was interred as a German prisoner of war for two years. He escaped from OFLAG 64 in Poland and made his way to Odessa. His decorations include the Legion of Merit and a Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters. George Lucey retired a colonel from the U. S. Army. The control file included with the collection contains additional biographical information on George Abbott Lucey.
