Early in its history, the City of Manchester, N.H., mandated that the perambulation of town lines occur on a regular basis; therefore, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen occasionally appointed a perambulator to carry out this duty in connection with representatives from bordering towns, and together the representatives would walk the boundaries between the two communities.
