Glynn County Citizens' Council (Ga.)

Hide Profile

The first Citizens' Council of America also known as White Citizen's Council was established in Indianola, Mississippi in 1952 as an American white supremacist organization that sought to prevent desegregation. Soon after the establishment of the first council in Mississippi, additional chapters soon developed beyond Mississippi and throughout the south, including in Glynn County, Georgia. The influence of these chapters began to wane in the 1970s when desegregation proved to be a permanent aspect of life. The successor of this organization was the Council of Conservative Citizens which was founded in 1988.
