Newton, Edward
Variant namesEdward Newton (1832-1897) was the younger brother of Alfred Newton, who was Professor of Zoology at the University of Cambridge. Edward was employed in Colonial Service, in Mauritius 1859-1877 and as Governor and Colonial Secretary of Jamaica, 1877-1883. Interested in ornithology, he collected mainly birds to present to his brother, including many rare species from Mauritius.
