R.T. Haines Halsey was an 1886 graduate of Princeton University. He worked on the New York Stock Exchange from 1899 to 1923 when he retired to devote time to the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was a trustee and chairman of the commitee on American Decorative Art at the museum and was instrumental in opening the Wing. He was an avid collector of Americana and wrote many articles linking American history with decorative arts.
