William Peterson was a U.S. Army Commissary Sergeant at Camp John Hay, Philippines from Jan. 1940 to June 1940. In July 1940 he was promoted to 1st Sergeant and detailed to the Manila Port area. He was promoted to Technical Sergeant in Feb. 1941 and transferred to Fort Stotsenberg and Clark Field. After these bases and Bataan were captured by the Japanese, he was imprisoned at Camp O'Donnell, Fort McKinley, Cabanatuan, and Bilibid Prison in the Philippines from 1942 to 1945.
