Ranched for 13 years in Dawson County, Texas. Managed Pitchfork Ranch from 1942 to 1965. Member of TSCRA, Texas Hereford Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Ranching Heritage Association (1st chairman of overseers). Died 1977 in Lubbock, Texas.

Born on July 8, 1895 in Cuero, Texas, Douglas R. Burns, also called D. Burns, grew up in a ranching environment. He graduated from Texas A and M with a B. S. in Animal Husbandry, and married Mamie Sypert in 1924. Burns ranched for 13 years in Dawson County, Texas, and later managed the Pitchfork Ranch from 1942 to 1965. He was a member of the Texas Hereford Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, served as director of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association, and as the first chairman of overseers of the Texas Tech University Ranching Heritage Association. Burns died in 1977 in Lubbock, Texas.
