Alexander McRorey Nisbet was born in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland in around 1905. He began studying at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1922, taking Mathematics, Natural Philosophy and Chemistry in his first year. In his second year he studied Mathematics, Chemistry and Geology. In his third year he studied Chemistry. His Chemistry lectures took place at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow . He graduated from the University with a BSci in 1926. He became a teacher, attending teacher training courses at the Anderson College of Medicine, Glasgow , in 1937, where he studied Biology, Botany and Zoology. He died around1976.
