Story Birdseye was born 28 November 1906 in Spokane, WA. He graduated from high school in 1925 and graduated from the University of Washington. He met his wife on a train trip home from college in 1927. After dating several years, they were married in 1931. Story Birdseye practiced law in Seattle, WA from 1930 to 1955 with the firm Jones, Birdseye and Gray. He was appointed special prosecutor to a King County grand jury in 1947. In 1955 he was named to the King County Superior Court bench and served as judge until 1972. As a judge, he was known by some as "the hanging judge" for his strictness in court. After he retired from the Court, he moved to San Jose, CA where he passed away on July 31, 1999.
