Black Women in the Middle West Project.
The project was initiated in 1977 to collect materials concerning the history of African-American women in the Middle West. The Indianapolis section of the National Council of Negro Women coordinated collecting efforts in Indiana. The second phase, 1982-1984, was supported by an NEH grant as a feasibility study. The third phase, 1984-1985, implemented the project with a further NEH grant. The materials in this collection were collected during the first two phases of the project.
