Legare family.
Prominent family of Charleston, South Carolina area. Dr. Thomas Legare, both a medical doctor and minister, owned several plantations on James Island, S.C. His second wife was Sarah Jenkins Bailey Mikell, widow of Ephraim Mikell (1811-1831). Thomas and Sarah Legare's children included George Washington Seabrook Legare, Frances Douglas Legare, who married Alonzo Seabrook Bailey, and Rosa Susan Legare, who first married John Whaley and then Washington Augustus Clark (1842-1931).
