The expedition was sponsored by George Eastman, Daniel E. Pomeroy, and Daniel Wentz. Expedition members were Carl and Mary L. Jobe Akeley, George Eastman, and Daniel Pomeroy. The expedition split up for a few weeks with Pomeroy and Eastman going to Tanzania (Tanganyika) for various animals including gazelles, while the Akeleys went to the Kivu Region of Zaire (the Belgian Congo, where Carl Akeley died on Nov. 17, 1926) for gorilla habitats.
