Springfield, Illinois lawyer who was appointed United States Attorney for the Southern District in 1897 by President McKinley and in 1901 was appointed United States Judge. He was interested in politics and was chairman of the Republican County Central Committee for four years and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1896. He studied the law with the firm of Robinson Knapp & Shutt and was admitted to the bar in 1880 and then went to work for John A. Chestnut in the office of the Supervisor of the Census. He then spent two years working for the Illinois Railroad and Warehouse Commission before going into partnership with H.S. Greene, an attorney.
