Born in Detroit,1828;graduated from U.of M., 1848; studied law, was admitted to the bar,practiced law; city attorney, 1858-53; 2nd lieutenant of U.S. 2nd Cavalry, 1855; later 1st lieutenant; devoted to sport in his spare hours; when the war of secession started he was in Texas; he intended to go north on a boat, but being short sighted, he stumbled on the gang plank, fell into the water and drowned, April 1861.
