Mildred Percival Sherman was appointed the first Dean of College Relations in 1950. She was in charge of liaison with alumnae, fundraising and special projects. The title and office were dropped after her death in 1961. Series 1 and 2 of this record group include papers concerned with fund raising campaigns before she took office and are therefore papers inherited by not generated by her. Series 3 includes Mildred Percival Sherman's papers. Other material of this office was transferred to the Fund Office, and is found in RG IIIA.

Early fundraising at Radcliffe College was conducted by specially appointed committees, such as the Committee on Resources, 1915-1936. From 1950 to 1961, Mildred Sherman, Dean of College Relations, was responsible for alumnae gifts and special fundraising projects. On her death in 1961, the College Fund Office was established. It was renamed the Office of Development and Alumnae Affairs in 1972 to continue previous functions as well as to seek foundation and government support.
