Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) George MacDonald was born in Hocking, Iowa, and earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology. He attended Citizens' Military Training Camps at Camp Custer, Michigan, and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Infantry Reserve on 21 October 1933. He served with the 328th Army Air Force Base Unit during World War II at Gulfport Field, Mississippi. After the war he served in the U.S. Army Air Reserve and the U.S. Air Force Reserve. MacDonald commanded the 9607th Air Reserve Squadron, Air Force Reserve from 3 March 1955-30 March 1957 and retired in 1957.
