Born in Port Huron, Mich. on July 9, 1848, Charles E. Thompson was the son of John D. and Mary (Lockwood) Thompson. The family moved to Huron County, Michigan in 1854. Thompson married Elizabeth McDonald in 1872. They had five children, including Charles D., a prominent Michigan attorney. He became clerk of Huron County from 1876-1800; county treasurer, 1880-1882; registrar of deeds, 1888; circuit court commissioner, 1888-1896; Judge of Probate, 1896, 1900; city recorder, 1900-1906. Thompson was involved in numerous faternal organization, the Presyterian Church, and the Fire Relief Commission. He died on Mar. 27, 1907.
