Swain, William, 1821-1904

In 1849, Swain, with F. A. Bailey, M. Hutchinson, and J. Root,left Youngstown, New York, to join the California gold rush. After a few months at the mines, he returned to New York by Panama. He was a farmer in Youngstown and became prominent in local politics.
