Scrimshaw, Nevin S.
Variant namesProfessor of Nutrition, MIT. Dr. Scrimshaw did his undergraduate work at Ohio Wesleyan University and received an M.A. in biology and a Ph.D. in physiology from Harvard in 1941. He attended the University of Rochester medical school and received his M.D. in 1945.

Professor of Nutrition, MIT. Dr. Scrimshaw did his undergraduate work at Ohio Wesleyan University and received an M.A. in biology and a Ph.D. in physiology from Harvard in 1941. He attended the University of Rochester medical school and received his M.D. in 1945.
In 1949 he became the founding director of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP). He helped develop INCAP into one of the world's most comprehensive and productive institutions devoted to the study and alleviation of global malnutrition. In 1961 he resigned from INCAP to become a professor of Human Nutrition at MIT and head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science.
An authority on international nutrition, his interests range from nutritional anthropology to food science and technology. He is a member of a number of professional societies and he has been active on a number of advisory committees as well as the UN and WHO. Dr. Scrimshaw has published over 350 scientific articles and has received numerous awards.
