Hobbs, Leland S. (Leland Stanford), 1892-1966
Variant namesLeland Stanford Hobbs (1892-1966) was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts and raised in New Jersey. He received his commission from West Point in 1915, in the same graduating class with Dwight D. Eisenhower. He served in France during World War I and during World War II, became a major general and commander of the 30th Infantry Division in Europe. After World War II, he commanded the IX Corps at Camp Sendai, Japan, and held a number of commands in the United States. He retired from Army service in 1953 and became vice president of the colonial Trust Bank in New York City. Hobbs died at Walter Reed Army Hospital and was buried in Arlington national Cemetery.
