Phillips, Ray E. (Ray Edmund), 1889-1967
Variant namesAmerican Board missionary in South Africa (1918-1958), opponent of apartheid; with wife, Dora Phillips, also a missionary, returned to U.S., in 1958 and afterwards spent much time traveling and speaking on South African experiences; served as moderator for the General Council of the Congregational Christian Churches of the United States until 1961; associate and interim minister at Pilgrim Congregational Church, St. Louis, Mo. (1959-1960, 1962-1963), moving to Claremont, Calif., in 1964.
