Anthony Thomas Covacevich was born in Innisfail and became a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1938. He was a Senior Partner in the firm of MacDonnells, Solicitors in Cairns; and in the course of his career had an interest in numerous companies including hire cars, pearl and trochus button manufacture, sugar farming, cattle grazing, picture-theatres, concrete masonry and radio and television broadcasting. As a member of the RAAF during the second World War he had distinguished record. He went on 26 official bombing raids and 3 unofficial flights over enemy territory and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was knighted in 1978 for his community service and philanthropy.
