Craig, Robert, b. 1838.
Robert Craig was born in Ayrshire, Scotland on March 17, 1838. He engaged in the mining business at age ten and immigrated to America at age sixteen. He was connected with the Osage Carbon, Coal & Mining Company of Osage City, Kansas from the date of its opening in the summer of 1870 as Osage County's first coal mine. The company was succeeded by the Osage Carbon Company, for which Craig served as Superintendent. The Osage Carbon Company employed six hundred men and mined an average of 750 tons of coal a day.
