Bennett, John, 1907-
Variant namesCharleston, S.C. naval officer and writer. John Henry (van Sweringen) Bennett graduated from Yale in 1928 and obtained a master's degree there in 1930. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, and in 1939 he married Leonora Broughton Stack. John H. Bennett was the son of writer and artist John Bennett (1865-1956), a native of Chillicothe, Ohio who made his home in Charleston, S.C.
