Girls State. Texas.

Hide Profile

Texas Bluebonnet Girls' State, a program similar to the American legion Lone Star Boys' State, was instituted by the American Legion Auxiliary in 1940. Its purpose is to educate high school age girls in American citizenship by participation in the government of ficticious cities and states using American democratic principles and methods. Each year two girls are selected as members of Girls' Nation, held in Washington, DC. Meetings were held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1941 and 1942, but were cancelled until the end of World War II. In 1946 they resumed at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin where they have continued annually.
