Annie Laurie Baird was appointed by the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. to the Chosen (Korea) Mission in 1890 with her husband, Dr. William M. Baird. Until 1897, she and her husband served at the Seoul, Fusan, and Taiku stations. In 1897, they were transferred to Pʻyŏngyang where Dr. Baird assumed the presidency of the Pyengyang Academy and Union Christian College. Mrs. Baird conducted the first woman's Bible training class in Pyengyang and assisted Dr. Baird with his work at the college. She prepared a Korean language text for new missionaries, published several works on Korean life, and translated a number of other articles. Mrs. Baird died in service at Pʻyŏngyang in 1916.
