Florida State University Budget Advisory Committee, formerly Florida State University Budget Committee

Hide Profile

In the 1970's, the Budget Committee's function was to review operating budgets in all areas of the University and make recommendations to the President. Members, who were appointed by the President, included one faculty member, President of the Student Body, Executive Vice President (chairman), Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Graduate Dean (ex officio). By the mid-70's the committee consisted of two faculty members (one of whom was non-voting), Executive Vice President (chairman), Vice President for University Relations, Vice President for Educational Services, Assistant to the President for Minority Affairs, two Provosts, Associate Executive Vice President, and the President of Student Body (ex officio). At this time, members were appointed by the Executive Vice President. The President resumed the role of appointments to the Budget Committee by the end of the decade, and it is not immediately apparent why the switch to appointment by the Executive Vice President ever occurred.

As of 2007, the Florida State University (FSU) Budget Advisory Committee, formerly the FSU Budget Committee, is composed of the President (Chairperson); Provost and Vice President for Academic affairs (Vice Chairperson); Dean of the Faculties and Deputy Provost; Vice Presidents for Finance and Administration and University Advancement; the President of the Faculty Senate; the Chairperson of the Faculty Senate Budget Advisory Committee; and three Faculty Members appointed by the President from a list provided by the Faculty Senate Steering Committee for staggered three-year terms. The director of Budget and Analysis is an ex officio, non-voting member. The Committee advises and consults with the President on budgetary matters pertaining to the implementation of the institution's mission and priorities; serves as the official group within the University having knowledge and information about University-wide budget planning, allocation, and management; discusses and establishes budgetary policies and procedure for fulfilling the university's priorities; advises and consults with the President on the annual budget allocations for the major divisions of the University presided over by the vice presidents and reviews expenditures in relation to allocations for the divisions; and advises and consults on budgetary amendments and reserve allocations affecting major divisions.
