In 1884, Congress passed legislation which made the General Laws of Oregon the law for the District of Alaska; a single district court was established for all of Alaska with the seat at Sitka. By 1900, the district court was separated into three districts with judges at Juneau, Saint Michaels and Eagle City. In 1909, the District Court of Alaska further divided into four districts at Juneau, Nome, Valdez and Fairbanks respectively. Finally, in 1943 the third district court at Valdez was moved to Anchorage.
