Jeffry, William, 1737-1772
William Jeffry (1737-1772) was born in Salem, Mass., the son of James Jeffry ( - ) and Ruth Pratt Jeffry (ca. 1804-1792). He became clerk of the courts in Essex County, Mass. in 1771. In 1766 Jeffry married Elizabeth Bowditch ( - ) of Salem.
Jeffry was one of the original subscribers for the Social Library, which was founded in Salem, Mass. in 1760. Much of the library's original collection was imported from England by Jeremiah Condy (1708-1768) in 1761.
