Isaac W. Leonard enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry while in his senior year at Mt. Union College, Alliance, Ohio. He was wounded and taken prisoner in the Battle of Stone River, Tennessee, Dec. 31, 1862. According to the Ohio Roster, he died Jan. 28, 1863 while prisoner in Jackson, Miss., from wounds received in battle.

Issac Leonard was born in Pennsylvania and educated at Clayton High and Peddie Prep Schools. Leonard began working as a sales clerk for various companies joining Lotz Photo Engraving Company in 1930. He eventually became Vice-Pres. of that company. In 1949, he purchased Gatchel & Manning Co. and became its president until 1963 when it was bought by Butler and Ferrigno. He continued to work there after its purchase. Isaac was a member of several photoengravers associations and also served on the board of directors of the Manufacturing Photoengravers Association.
