William Armstrong was a 2nd Lieutenant of Lewis' Pennsylvania Battalion of the Flying Camp (or mobile reserve), which was primarily composed of militia and state troops from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware from July to December 1776 and adjutant to Lt. Col. Thomas Bull.
