Grace Johnston, born in Peterborough, Ont., completed the H.E.VI - Optional in Normal (1 yr.) course at Macdonald Institute in 1908. She went on to study at a Christian Missionary Training Institute, Nyack, New York. She and her husband, Marion Hilford, served two tours in Sierra Leone, Africa, where she contracted tuberculosis. She died in 1936 in Asheville, North Carolina. No doubt, her notebook served as a guide for her nutrition instruction to the people in Africa.
