The Glacier Park Hotel Company was chartered in Minnesota in May 1914 to take over hotel and related properties of the Great Northern Railway Company in Glacier National Park. In May 1943, its name was changed to the Glacier Park Company and it was organized into four operating divisions: the Glacier Park Division constructed and operated tourist facilities principally in Glacier National Park, including the activities formerly performed by the Glacier Park Transport Company; the Canadian Division operated the Prince of Wales Hotel and related properties in Waterton Lakes, Alberta, Canada, originally operated by the Canadian Rockies Hotel Company, Ltd; the Somers Lumber Division, formerly the Somers Lumber Company, chiefly supplied treated railroad ties to the Great Northern Railway; and the W&GN Division, formerly the Washington and Great Northern Townsite Company, managed coal lands and industrial sites along the Great Northern Railway. In 1956, the management of most of the property was taken over by Knutson Hotel Corporation, Minneapolis, and, in 1960 most of the property was sold to Don Hummell of Tucson, Arizona.
