The Gold Key Society was founded in 1937 by captains of the major athletic teams and other student leaders to be a greeting committee for visiting athletic teams. The organization was an all male honor society in the 1930s and 1940s. It became co-educational in 1971 and is now open to all students interested in community service. Major services activities include: ushering sporting events and lectures, helping at blood drives, and assisting the elderly and handicapped children.
