Newell, Addison.

Addison Newell was born in Alna, Maine on May 8, 1812 and came to California around 1853 to mine gold. He moved to Sacramento in 1855 and raised cabbage; later that year he moved to Pleasant Valley in Mariposa County and again tried gold mining. In 1857 Newell moved to Santa Cruz, where he prospered, and died on May 3, 1892. Newell Creek in Santa Cruz County is named after him.
