Vaillot, Madeleine Clémence, 1907-2003

Madeleine Clémence Vaillot was born on May 27, 1907 in Bourdan, France. A member of the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation, Vaillot began her career as a registered nurse at a French hospital in Barcelona, Spain in 1937. Between 1936 and 1939, she served as a staff nurse at the Clinica della Presentazione in Italy.

Vaillot arrived in the United States in 1939 and became the director of St Anne’s School of Nursing in Fall River, Massachusetts. Vaillot earned her Master’s of Education from Boston College in 1953, and subsequently her PhD in 1960. She was an assistant professor at Boston College from 1960 to 1967. In 1969, Vaillot became Dean of the College of Nursing at Southeastern Massachusetts University (now University of Massachusetts Dartmouth) in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Vaillot died on October 12, 2003 in Dighton, Massachusetts.
