Born July 11, 1911; died February 16, 1999. Pioneer of "wholistic health" movement; founder of the parish nursing movement. Rev. Dr. Granger E. westberg graduated from Augustana College in 1935 and the Augustana Theological Seminary in 1939. He served as pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IL, and as chaplain for Augustana Hospital. Dr. Westberg taught at the University of Chicago Divinity and Medical Schools; the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago; McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago; the Institute of Religion at Texas medical Center, Baylor University Medical School; Wittenberg University's Hamma School of Theology; and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago. He published several books and numerous articles including "Good Grief: A Constructive Approach to the Problem of Loss" and "The Parish Nurse". Granger is credited as a pioneer in the concept of "wholistic health" which combines care for the body with care of the spirit, and as the founder of the parish nursing movement, which began at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, in 1984.
