Hugh Boyd Manson (b. 1915, Darien, Ga.), U.S. Air Force officer, received his commission and pilot wings in 1939 after graduating from university. During World War II, he served as squadron commander, 22nd Bomb Group, in Australia and New Guinea; commander of the training group, director of operations, and training and deputy base commander at Lake Charles, Louisiana, developing a crew training program for the new A-26 aircraft; and deputy commander, 319th Bomb Group. At the end of the War, he served with the occupation forces in Japan. In the 1950s, General Manson was director of flight and all-weather testing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; commander of the 406th Fighter Interceptor Wing in England; and deputy chief of staff for operations, HQ U.S. Air Forces in Europe. In 1966 he was appointed commander, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base. He retired in 1969.
