John Robert Laverty wrote an account of his early research into areas of Brisbane's history, including that of the Brisbane City Council, while he worked as a research assistant for Professor Gordon Greenwood. It is this research that is summarised in the two volumes titled 'Brisbane perspectives'. Professor Greenwood had been commissioned to write a centenary history of Brisbane's local government, and John Laverty worked with him on the project. Essentially, the summaries were created to aid Professor Greenwood in writing an historical account of the first twenty years of the Council. This biographical history has been compiled from information gathered from the Preface of Volume 1 of 'Brisbane Perspectives'.
