Godfrey, Kenneth W.

Penrose was born in Camberwell, London, England, on February 4, 1832. He joined the Mormon Church May 14, 1850 and at age 19 was sent on a mission to Maldon, Essex, England. He married Lucetta Stratford on Janury 21, 1855. He emigrated to Utah in 1861. He settled first in Farmington, then Logan, followed by Ogden in 1870 where he began his career as a journalist with the newspaper "Ogden Junction." He served on the Ogden city council and 1872 Constitutional Convention. In 1877 he moved to Salt Lake City and became the editor of the "Deseret News." He was ordained an apostle in the Mormon church July 7, 1904 and served as second counselor to President Joseph Fielding Smith and first/second counselor to Heber J. Grant. He died May 16, 1925 in Salt Lake City.
