Lewis Charles Everard was born on November 7, 1884, in Corsicana, Texas. He received a B.A. from Yale University in 1908 and a M.A. in 1910. Everard was an instructor in English at Yale from 1911 to 1915. He then worked for the publications division of the United States Forest Service in Washington in a variety of capacities: assistant editor, 1915-1918; chief of publications, 1918-1920; and as editor, chief of educational cooperation, and assistant chief of the division of information, 1925-1929. He served as chief editor for the Department of Agriculture, 1920-1921; economist and statistician for the War Finance Corporation, 1921-1923; director and vice president of the Medical Standard Book Company, Baltimore, 1923-1925; and editor for Museum News, Smithsonian Institution, 1929-1943. He was the author of numerous articles on forestry and American museums. Everard died on August 27, 1943, in Washington, D.C.
