Greusel, Joseph
Born Aug. 3, 1837, Glasco, Ulster Co., N.Y. ; Died Feb. 13, 1913, Lansing, Michigan. Came to Detroit with parents, John Greusel and Susan Sarvis at age of 10, from N. Y. State. His father, native of Bavaria, was a brick-maker, attaining wealth and position. Joseph taught school at Springwells previous to his employment by the Detroit Free Press, 1869-1900. Newspaper work as political correspondent caused him to travel extensively, both here and abroad, and prepared him for his position as Representative in the Mich. Legislature, which he held for the fourth term at the time of his death. He was Dean of Mich. newspaper men, and widely know as a politically, an even--tempered, sociable, gentleman.
