Gamble, Harry Pollard, 1876-1972

Harry Pollard Gamble was born October 17, 1876, in St. Maurice, La. He attended Louisiana State University and served in the Spanish-American War. Gamble was admitted to the Louisiana Bar and opened his first practice in Winnfield in 1903. He served in the Louisiana Legislature in 1904 and again in 1906 as a representative from Winn Parish. Gamble was appointed secretary of the Louisiana Conservation Commission in 1908 and assistant attorney general under Attorney General and future governor Ruffin G. Pleasant in 1912. He founded the American Society for the Preservation of State Government and Racial Integrity in 1955, an organization condemning the promotion of racial unity in the South and the integration of the public schools throughout the 1950s. Harry Gamble died in New Orleans, La., on October 28, 1972.
