Alfred Geer Hempstead was born in Waterford, Connecticut in 1894 and died in 1980 in Florida. He received a B.A. in history and government and an M.A. in economics from the University of Maine and earned a M. Div. at Bangor Theological Seminary. An Army veteran of World War I, he was ordained a minister in the Methodist Church and served pastorates at Mattawamkeag, Hampden Highlands, Brownville Junction, Livermore Falls, Bucksport, Rockland, and Orono. He then served as superintendent of the Augusta district of the Methodist church until his retirement in 1959.
David Howard Tribou was born in Hampden, Maine in 1848 and died in Philadelphia in 1922. He received his education at Hampden Academy, Bucksport Seminary, and Boston University School of Theology. In 1872 Senator Hannibal Hamlin recommended his appointment as chaplain in the United States Navy, and President U.S. Grant made the appointment. He served as chaplain for more than 50 years.
