Matthew Flinders and George Bass set out from Port Jackson on 7 October 1798 in the sloop 'Norfolk', accompanied by the private vessel 'Nautilus' (Captain Bishop, Supercargo Roger Simpson), to circumnavigate Van Diemens Land. They reached Twofold Bay on 9 October, and spent four days surveying the bay.

The Medical notebook listing ailments and treatments, including medical references is said to have belonged to D'Arcy Wentworth, however there is some doubt about this attribution.

From the description of Journal describing Two-Fold Bay in New South Wales, Furneaux's Islands in Bass's Strait and the coasts and harbours of Van Dieman's Land, from notes made on board the colonial sloop Norfolk in 1798 and 1799, [not after 1997] [microform].
