The Midcontinental Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MCMLA) is a chapter of the Medical Library Association (MLA), a professional organization of individuals and institutions in the health sciences library field. MCMLA provides an opportunity for discussion of regional and local interests and for continuing education in health sciences librarianship. MCMLA operates with bylaws, elected officers, and committees. Representatives from MCMLA also serve on various MLA committees and councils.
MCMLA was organized in 1968 as Central States Regional Medical Library Group and had its first annual conference also in 1968. In 1969, that group of libraries ceased to exist and its members became a regional chapter of the Medical Library Association. In 1970 this group changed its name formally to MCRMLG (Mid Continental Regional Medical Library Group) to conform with NLM guidelines for Region 8. MCRMLG first put out the Express, the organization's newsletter to facilitate communication among members in 11 states. In 1980, the name changed again to the present Mid Continental Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MCMLA). --- From website MCLA Who are we (http://www.mcmla.org/docs/vision.html) and a chronology in the January 1, 2004 newsletter http://www.mcmla.org/archives/express/2000/v25pi1Jan2004.pdf
