Born in Tinmouth, Vermont, July 25, 1784; graduated from Middlebury College, 1803; went to Jamaica to improve health; returned and settled at Charleton, South Carolina; moved and settled at Detroit, Mich., 1823-24; published the "Morning Herald" with Seymour; Judge of the Supreme Territory Court, 1827; Judge of the Criminal Court of Wayne County, 1841-1843; Director of Female Seminary, Detroit; Whig in politics; after 1854 Democrat; one of the earliest writers on law in U.S.; died in Detroit, October 1868.
