Cranmer, George E., 1884-1975

George Ernest Cranmer was born in Denver, Colo. in 1884. He attended East High School and graduated from Princeton University in 1907. After graduation, he worked in the family's ranching business before entering the brokerage firm of James H. Causey. Cranmer eventually opened his own firm with A. E. Wilson and by 1928 had saved enough money to retire at the age of forty-four. In 1935, after he managed the mayoral campaign of Benjamin Stapleton, he was named the Manager of Improvements and Parks (1935-1947). As Manager, Cranmer was instrumental in developing Red Rocks Park, Winter Park, the Valley Highway, and Stapleton Airfield. He died in 1975 and is buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colo.
