Corporal (CPL) Charles H. Schaeffer enlisted in the U.S. Army on 9 May 1917. He served with Company F, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Division during World War I. Schaeffer was promoted to corporal on 1 January 1918. He participated in the Battle of Chateau Thierry on 18 July 1918, part of the Second Battle of the Marne.

Corporal (CPL) Frank B. Schaeffer was assigned to K Company, 316th Infantry Regiment, 158th Infantry Brigade, 79th Division, National Army of the United States, on 17 September 1917. He was promoted to corporal on 4 September 1918. Schaeffer participated in the Meuse-Argonne campaign.
